Hotel Carlo Magno ***
My sister and I appreciated the comfort of the room, the big breakfast in the morning which helped us having a long day visit in Rome, the possibility of watching TV (even a French channel available !), the kindness of the reception team. However, the hotel is a bit far from the center so you lose some time getting downtown and you have to plan a full day visit and get back to the hotel at night. The hotel area is a bit noisy but the rooms are quiet enough. The surrounding is not very pleasant but you can have excellent pieces of pizza (al taglia) in the via Nomentana between Hotel Carlo Magno and the bus stop - a tiny shop selling pizzas at cheap price - When you leave hotel behind you, stay on the left hand side of the pavement, about 3 minute walk, there are some stairs - you can eat your pizza here with a drink or take it away. The hotel has a computer and Internet but it is appallingly slow ... very funny using it but you'd rather use it at night if you don't want to lose both your time and temper !! The overall impression is good enough and the price/quality were OK for us.

a nics hotel with a fantastic view from it´s breakfast terrace on the 7.th floor. Unfortunately a littel outside so you need either a car or the public transport. But nice though!

I've got nothing to complain about the Carlo Magno. It's location is not exactly in the center of Rome bur it's close to the next bus stop. Additionally its environment is extraordinarily calm considering the high noise level of Rome. The porter is helpful and his spoken English is excellent too. Furthermore one's given a nice view of Rome at breakfast. One nearly forgets the lack of variety concerning the breakfast. I'd be pleased if they would offer ham and eggs instead of just bread and jam. I'd recommend reducing the noise level of the radio played at breakfast. Rome is abundant with noise anyhow.

Nice hotell, easy reached by buss 90 or 36 from termini[the centralrailwaystation).takes only 15 minits. Easy to reach the city. Take buss 60 to plazia venetzia and you are beside the forumromanum. And a few minitswalk to the coluseum.I enjoyd much the free internet in the tv-room.

We have had a great time in the Carlo Magno and in Rome. The hotel easily accessible by train (from the airport) and by bus (to and from the city). The employees at the reception are extremely friendly and helpful. A good place to stay for a Rome sight seeing trip.

It’s an excellent hotel of value for money. It was a bit difficult to find the hotel at the beginning as bus drivers do not seem to know where the via Val d'Aosta stop is. In fact, the bus stop (90,36,84) is very close to the hotel and it takes only 15-20 minute by bus to the city center. We stayed there for 5 nights with clean room and fresh towers everyday. Staff Louis and Massimo are very friendly and competent.

Very good hotel, nice employees and very well connected to the center of Rome by bus. Besides, near there is a train station which is great to go to Fiumicino airport. And the italian restaurant opposite to the hotel is great!!!! Great food and very nice people!!!!

Comfortable stay, but breakfast average. Hotel had no local information or leaflets or adverts of things to do and see.

This is a nice Hotel and the bus service to the city center is good. We took an evening tour and dinner from the Hotel but after the dinner was over the tour company wouldn't return us to the Hotel because it was to far out and we had to take a cab (Note that they picked us up though). The Resturant accross the street is mediocre at best. I'd recommend eating somewhere before you return to the Hotel. The Hotel is quite far from the airport, however, they arrange for a driver to pick us up and drop us at the airport for about 47 Euro.

My wife and I stayed there for 3 nights and it was good. It is located where you can take the public transportation very easy to the airport, train stations or to the center of Rome. I was very pleased with the hotel.

It's nice hotel, it is located 20-30 minutes by bus from a Venezia Palazzo (bus number 60) and bus number 90 to Termini Stataion. There is a train station Roma-Nomentana near the hotel (exit rigth side from the station, turn rigth, after that turn left at the crossroads with a traffic lights) and it's very convenient to come from the Airport Fiumicino(5 Euro). Although there is conditioner it doesn't work (they said it's such a season...) and it was cold at nigth and was no blanket (I asked for it, but recieved a blanket just after 3 days, and we were there for 4 nights). Good breakfast - tosts, buns, gems, chease, cereals, yogurts. They not always emty a trash, but they cleaned rooms every day. Room - double standard was not big, but for a coupl it's enough. We returned evry day at the evening only to sleep there. There was a nice man at the reception, and not so nice woman. Basically it's nice hotel, with a convenient location, with good breakfast. If I'll come to Rome next time, I think I'll stay there one more time. Enjoy your trip!

I was very satisfied with this hotel. All was perfect in the hotel: the room, service and all people were very friendly. The bus lines 60 and 90 are closed to the Hotel and so you can go to the central station and centre in 15-20 minutes ! Perfect ! Next year in ocotober 2005 I'll come again.

This is my favorite hotel in Rome: reasonable, quiet, convenient, spotlessly clean, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, yet well connected with all points of interest by several buses (#60, 84, etc.). The staff is friendly and competent; the free internet access on the mezzanine is a great feature and ... the restaurant "Grazia Deledda" right across the street from the hotel is EXTRAORDINARY!!! The only negative point is the hotel breakfast service. In my experience, it is very difficult to obtain food of mediocre quality in Italy, but regrettably the breakfast restaurant manager has succeeded in this tough endeavor. The coffee is terrible, the "orange juice" is some sort of chemical concoction, the cream filling in some of the "cornetti" might have been ear wax in a previous incarnation.... I would not mind paying an extra 10 euros for a good breakfast. Fortunately, the cafe across the street from the hotel (at the corner of via nomentana) sells excellent cornetti and fresh-pressed OJ. Overall an excellent value. We always stay here when we travel to Rome.

Very good hotel for the price. Have close an express bus stop that takes you to the city center en 20min. The rooms are just as you can see in the web, and are cleaned everyday. Breakfast is very good.

the room is good. reaching the hotel by nomentana train station is easy.however getting back from the center by bus, we had a difficult time locating the hotel. location is slightly off, you need to take a bus to move around.

We had the room behind the elevator ?! The view from the roof-garden (breakfast-room) is sensational! Beware of taxi-drivers ! They took € 40,-- from the railwaystation to the hotel. It´s very easy to reach by bus (€ 1,--)

I'm very satisfied from this accomodation, from the begin of my vacation . The fare for the taxi from Tiburtina station to carlo Magno is around 12 Euros (be aware!). The welcoming is very warm and professional, even at night. The employess are almost prepared about the city tours, public transportation, restaurants and pubs. The neighbourhood is not very full of restaurants but the few locals are cheap and the food is quite good (I suggest to try the restaurant on the other side of the street).I advise everybody to get a room in this Hotel , it has a very good relationship between price and quality. I dare you to find another nice place at 80euros/night in this area....

The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were an Italian restaurant and a take away pizza shop very nearby. Both of them were very nice. The only problem was the information said it was in near Nomentano "metro" station but it was not metro, local train station. It was inconvenient for us. But you can go to central Rome by bus easily.

The hotel is easy to reach by bus 36, 90 from Termini in about 15-20min. Bus stops are 100m from hotel at main road that runs by. To go right into town (Piazza Venezia, Colosseum, Forums, etc) take the 60 Express that stops just 200m down the road. Since it is so easy to access historic down-town, this is a great Hotel. The price we paid was great and also included breakfast. Breakfast was also very good (buffet with cereal, coffee, juices, rolls, croissants, etc.). Rooms are very clean and the sound proof windows keep out the noise of the big road that runs right by. Maybe not a good idea to sleep by the open window. The restaurant accross the street is really good (go before 8:00 PM or you will not get a seat). There is another restaurant (does not have all menue items every day) just about 150m to the left as you walk out of the hotel.

I think that Carlo Magno was superb, just what me and my friend needed. The hotel is located around 15-20 min outside Rome city centre, but the busses run frequently. Only negative thing about the busses are that they often are very crowded and then you just have to behave like an Italian and squeeze in!The bus stop by the hotel is called Val d'Aosta (or something like that)the hotel is just opposite the bus stop where you can see a big HOTEL sign on the house corner, DON'T get confused by a yellow Carlo Magno hotel sign that is located around 400 meters before the bus stop!! The best restaurant we came across was without a doubt the restaurant opposite the hotel, it's brilliant. Next time I come to Rome, I'll definitly be staying at the Carlo Magno. Say Hi to Andrea (the waiter at the restaurant opposite ) for me:-)he is gorgeous!

i enjoyed my stay in carlo magno.ITs a real 3 star with very good room service. the only problem is that during night taxi from, to centre cost at least 15 e...Other hours the transport is very easy and cheap with a public bus!

We had a great 4 days in Rome at Carlo Magno. Hotel staff at reception were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a nice buffet (bearing in mind the very reasonable room prices). Rooms are perfectly adequate and match the 3 star rating. Location is about 20 minutes by bus from city centre, but buses extremely frequent (normally every 5 minutes) - though all buses in Rome can get crowded. Direct bus service to Stazione Termini as well, which was useful at beginning and end of our stay. Only word of caution - there is only a very limited choice of eating places in the vicinity in the evening (though some excellent value pizza available during the day, and to take away). Definitely worth considering if your budget is limited but you don't want to go downmarket.

If I hadn't stayed in a fabulous and less expensive hotel in Rome at the beginning of our trip, I may have been more impressed with Carlo Magna. Blah neighborhood, with only one restaurant nearby, which was NOT FRIENDLY, and also pretty shabby. Very noisy and small. Not the worst experience, one could certainly do better.

Really enjoyed my stay at the Carlo Magno. The rooms are of a good standard. The breakfast consists of a buffet of cereal coffee, bread and jam. The hotel is about a 15 minute bus ride to the central train station. This isn't a problem as the buses run very frequently (The 90 stops very close to the hotel). If you are in Rome for a few days I would recomend getting a 3 day pass which gives you unlimitted bus and metro travel. Would also recomend the resteraunt opposite the hotel. Food was good and reasonably priced. We arrived in Rome via Ciampino airport. This is probably about 10 miles to the south of Rome. The easiest way to get from the airport is the coach service Terrorvision. This costs about 12 euros return (Buy tickets from the office in the airport)and takes you to the central train station.

If you take the FM-1 train (sometimes called FR-1) from Fiumicino airport and get off at Nomentana as the web site directs, make sure you turn RIGHT at the bottom of the stairs! We were a bit lost and there aren't many English speaking people in that neighbourhood to help. When you get out to the street, you should see a sign for the hotel. If you don't, you went the wrong way. Good access to the city centre, with three or four bus routes just outside the door. The price is not bad for Rome. Rooms were decent and clean. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant across the street was also quite good and they had english menus. Overall we were satisfied. It was a good way to see Rome without having to pay astronomical prices. Recommended.

The hotel is located not far from the city center and just one minute walk to the bus station. the room is spacious and clean. it is even not bad compare to the 4 star hotel we lived in florence.

Hotel Carlo Magno was a good enough hotel for us, the receptionist was helpful most of the time (they replaced the shower head because the water flow was too weak), the beds were fine, and it was a comfortable rest. However, the room smelled like smoke (told them about it, apparently it comes back due to some unknown reason). So what I did was I kept the windows open when we were outside of the room (opening the window during your sleep would result to a very noisy room as you can hear Via Momentana -- a very big road leading to Rome which is close to the hotel) Breakfast wansnt a full continental, but it was fine. Bread, some fruits and some coffee or hot chocolate plus some juices are available. We would even wrap some bread with jam to bring to rome just in case we get hungry. The room was a bit big and they were comfortable enough. Some noise comes in even with the window closed, but doesnt really pose much of a problem for us. Location wise, it was not very well. Although Bus 60 would take you to central Rome, it usually takes a while to get there because of the traffic. Plus the 60 is always full, and very crowded. Very difficult to get home when you are already tired and cant sit down because you have to stand up for 30-40 mins from Piazza Venezia. I suggest you find a hotel closer to central Rome.

We went to Rome off-season so we had a really cheap room (30 Euros per night per person incl. breakfast). So the relationship between price and quality was great, because the room would normally cost 170 Euros per night in peak season. The room was air-conditioned and had a TV, a small fridge and a gratuitous small safe. The breakfast was surprisingly good with cereals, bread, rolls, toast, croissants, different species of jam, a variety of coffee, etc. I know from other hotels in Italy that this is a great selection. Also the dining area was very comfy and the view during breakfast on the roof-deck is a great start into the day. The housekeeping went pretty quickly through the room. They did their best but in the corners was always some dust. Anyhow we got new towels everyday and the bathroom was clean (what is most important to me). The staffw as always friendly and told us a lot about the different buslines and where we have to watch for pickpockets and other stuff thats important for newbies in Rome. Another advantage is the location of the hotel. Although you have to drive about twenty minutes from the cental station to the hotel by bus (which is really tough when there are 38°C) you have some cheap supermarkets and fruit-boothes around the corner and down the Via Nomentana. And if you want to go out the busses are driving till late evening. The only negative point in this hotel was the elevator where we got stuck in twice (so we walked every morning from second floor to the dining area on seventh floor). Another point is the indirect connection from one bathroom to the other: you could hear people speak there if you were silent in yours. But apart from that the hotel is great and I would recommend the hotel to everyone who visits rome and who like some comfort even if you are a poor student like me.

A very enjoyable stay in a hotel that is definitely good value for the money we paid (69 euros a night). The room was clean and tidy, with room reburbishment every day. Coming from Ciampino via Terravision bus service to the downtown bus Termini, we had a little trouble finding the hotel, but for future travellers take the 90 express bus from the Termini down Via Nomentana (a long straight main road) and hop off the bus after you pass a Fiat garage on your left. This is also the best bus to take if you want to get into the Termini of a morning to then get a connection to San Pietro, airport etc, although the 60 bus will take you to Pza. Venizia, from which all the sights are walkable. We bought bus tickets but it is worth noting that hardly anyone in Rome pays and payment is not enforced at all (?). There is a cyber cafe over the road from the hotel - handy as the hotel's internet wasnt working. Also the air con seemed to be busted, we could only get it to heat our room and not cool it down. Opening the window is not an option due to traffic noise. Also note that you can hear the people in the next room to you breathe. The staff were helpful and spoke good English, and the breakfast was superb considering it was included in the price. For local dinner try the restaurant over the road, ask for Marcello, or go down Nomentana for a takeaway pizza. All in all myself and my mate were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay there again if we come back. Recommended.
